Review of The
Protector (Netflix series)

Set in Istanbul,
The Protector, is a story of an orphan, Hakan, who is raised by a merchant of the Grand
Bazaar. He has always idolized thetycoon FaysalErdem. One day a customer comes
in looking for a shirt embroidered with ancient symbols. This happens shortly
after Hakan bombs an job call for the personal security team of Fazal. Agar to
ascape poverty, he contrives to steal the shirt and sell it to fund a small
business with his childhood friend. They meet the client and her security team.
When the client, her security team are shot dead and his friend is injured
events turn for the worst when his guardian is shot. On the insistence of his
guardian, he takes the old man to the “Chemist”. A man his guardian believes
can save him. His injuries are too severe and just before he dies at the
chemist’s back room, he entrusts Hakan to the chemist and with his dying breath
urges Hakan to embrace his destiny.
Mourning his
guardian he is entrusted with his secret identity by the chemist and his
daughter. He is The Protector and must sacrifice all to save all of Istanbul
and her inhabitants from seven immortals bent on destroying the city and it’s inhabitants
and then the world.
To help him with
this insurmountable task he has a dagger, a ring, a shirt( the shirt makes him
invincible), and a team known as the loyal ones.
The series has a
very slow start but the action heats up towards
the end of the first season. If you are into action with a mythical,
historical backdrop pinned into fantasy this one is definitely for you.
